Living in Newcastle
If you’re considering Newcastle as one of your options for your next year at university, then you probably like to party. It’s famous for its nightlife (some even say its better than London). Its a big draw for many people now just students and any Friday or Saturday night in the city you will see a crowd of ridiculously dressed groups of hen and stag parties.
Geordie Shore has brought to the attention of the rest of the world, just what Newcastle’s nightlife can offer. There are clubs all over the city, but most of them are situated down by the river. There is a wide variety to choose from, anything from grime clubs to bars that hold retro 80’s nights. Once you’ve been in the city awhile, you will learn that if you really want to have a good night out, have to hit up one (of our many) trebles bars. They serve three shots of vodka with a mixer and then hit Flare – this may sound corny, but it’s actually great fun.
If you’re a music lover then Newcastle is the city for you – it’s home to the Metro Arena and an O2 academy for more well-known bands and DJs. The O2 often has bands playing every night of the week with some big names in music like Imagine Dragons and Franz Ferdinand.
For more underground or homegrown tastes, then you’ll want to head on over to The Cluny, a local bar that also seems to have a live performance almost every night.
While the nightlife is excellent it’s not all the city has to offer. It’s a beautiful place to spend your university years, filled with history and magnificent architecture – just outside the city is Hadrian’s wall one of the most famous historical sights in the UK, and when you’re strolling through the city there is always the chance you could be walking over an old Roman fort.
When the sun does decide to come out (and who knows when that will be with our unpredictable British weather), you’re just a short journey from  Tynemouth, where you can take a stroll along Priors beach and eat some of the freshest fish and chips in the country before taking a quick dip in the sea trying to swim off all the calories.
