Living in Preston
Preston is home to the University of Central Lancashire (better known as UCLan) with a population of over 30,000 students. Don’t let its small size fool you, this city has plenty to offer no matter your interests and is possibly one of the most underrated student cities in the country.
With a lively atmosphere and bars and clubs to suit anyone’s taste, if you enjoy a night out, then this might be the city for you, many of the local pubs also play live music and showcase talented local bands and DJs.
If clubs and bars are not your thing, there’s plenty of other entertainment on offer. With museums and art galleries just a short walk from the university campus, if you’re looking for culture it’s not hard to find. There is also a theatre and guild hall, hosting live music and plays throughout the year.
If you want to get active you’ll be spoilt for choice, UCLan has a massive gym in which you can play a variety of sports activities along with many other parks and gym throughout the city.
If you want to get away for the day and take a break from your studies, that’s no problem. Preston is in the heart of Lancashire and has great public transport connections, being one of the major stops on the West Coast Main Line that runs from London to Scotland. It is also a major connection on many northern rail lines, with quick links to cities like Leeds and Manchester, and an easy connection to Blackpool if you fancy some time by the seaside.
